Luke's story...

I always knew I wanted to work for an accountancy firm so after completing my studies in economics at the University of Malta I applied for a job at PwC Malta.

With an interest and background in accountancy and economics, PwC recommended the ACA to me. I researched it and realised that it would open up a lot of opportunities.

Malta’s financial services industry is growing and as a result, there are a lot of opportunities to flourish. I specialised in the banking and fintech industry which gave me the opportunity to work with high profile and reputable clients including the Central Bank of Malta. I enjoyed auditing them and found it really interesting to learn how they operate.

PwC supported me very well during my ACA training and I found the structure and pace of the qualification worked well for me.

The ACA is a very rewarding qualification, especially as it combines practical work experience and study. This meant I could apply what I was learning to the workplace. One of the main reasons that I chose the ACA is that it would give me the technical knowledge, skills and experience to become a business leader.

The ACA has opened up a lot of opportunities for me and I have had a fantastic career experience with PwC. Most recently, I have moved to Booming Games Limited. I was attracted to this company because it’s a start-up, managed by a group of smart and ambitious innovators. I joined them with the knowledge that I could add value beyond the numbers, using the professional skills and ethical mind-set I had developed. The ACA was one of the main factors which helped me to get a foothold in this industry.

I am extremely proud to have successfully qualified as an ICAEW member and to have been awarded the best ACA student for 2017 in Malta by the Malta Institute of Accountants.
