Summer Internship

Working in partnership with some of the top employers in the UK and around the world, the ICAEW Summer Internship is offering penultimate year university students studying in the UK a paid internship. Internships will be available across a range of organisations which you can use to start a career as a chartered accountant. Internships will last for a minimum of four weeks, starting in August 2023.

Who is eligible
You will be in your penultimate year of university (year two of a three-year degree or year three of a four-year degree). You don’t need to be studying accounting, finance, or business - in fact, many employers actively seek diversity in their recruitment, so having a non-accountancy background is welcomed. We particularly welcome applications from those currently underrepresented in the accountancy profession, such as women and non-binary people, students from a low socio-economic background, and students with a Black Heritage background.

Duration
6 weeks, but this can vary depending on the employer you join.

Commitment
Minimum of 15 hours per week, but again this can vary by employer.

What’s included
  • The chance to develop your professional skills including communication, problem solving, decision making, and team working.
  • Work on a live business project with other interns or colleagues, including a mentor to support you.
  • Fully funded ICAEW CFAB module, including tuition and exam fees.
Salary

Minimum of national living wage

What do you need to take part?

For the best experience, you’ll need a laptop or computer with a stable internet connection to join the online sessions. If you don’t currently have a personal laptop or you’re worried about your internet connection, please do still apply to the programme. It’s very important to us that this opportunity is available to students regardless of their personal situation.

Application process

The first step is a situational strengths assessment to understand how you approach different situations you could face in the workplace. If you are successful, you will then be asked to complete a pre-recorded video interview, before being matched with an employer.

This process is commonly used in recruitment so even if you aren’t successful, you will receive a feedback report and have gained valuable experience in the assessment process.
