Lukasz's story

At the time of applying for the Ambassador role, I was a second-year student of Accounting & Finance interested in obtaining a professional qualification. I knew that this is the path that I want to follow, and this was a great opportunity to get a real insight into the ICAEW during the university course. Stepping out of the comfort zone is always beneficial and that is why I decided to challenge myself. I believe that it is also very important to stand out amongst others as the job market is very competitive.

I am actively involved in helping Marketing executives on campus during the marketing events and on other occasions. I am performing lecture shout-outs as well as I am involved in promoting the organisation and ACA qualification. I am hosting drop-in sessions for students, where they can ask questions and increase their understanding of the organisation. It is important to highlight that, there is a variety of things to do and therefore it never gets boring. The role is also very flexible and highly enjoyable.

What have you learnt from being an campus ambassador?

Personally, I think that there is a number of skills that I have developed. Public speaking is one that I developed most. I am not a shy person, but the ability to further develop confidence in front of others is very useful. My understanding of the ICAEW is also deeper, and it is something that will help me to decide which qualification I should go for. As most of these skills are in high demand, I have successfully managed to secure my dream role at KPMG.

One of the most challenging, but at the same time most exciting activities I was involved in was the preparation of the short presentation for students. It was challenging because it was the first time I was presenting in front of an audience of roughly 70 people on my own. However, this was an exciting opportunity to develop my soft skills.

What are your plans after University?

I have secured a graduate role with KPMG. It is something I am extremely excited about and I am looking forward to all of the new challenges and opportunities. Some of the challenges include obtaining a professional qualification, but I am simply enthusiastic about it. I feel that role of ICAEW ambassador helped me to achieve this professional goal and I am looking to continue my involvement with the organisation.
