An international business qualification

ICAEW CFAB is an qualification that teaches essential knowledge in finance, accounting and business, and it is recognised by organisations all over the world. It is open to everyone and it is flexible around your current schedule. The exams can be taken in any order at many exam centres around the world. Upon completion, you will receive your ICAEW CFAB qualification certificate. It will give you an impressive-looking CV and show employers you have the job-essential skills they are looking for. It can help increase the roles you can apply for. It also provides skills that are invaluable for any start-up business. ICAEW CFAB is also a stepping stone to the ICAEW Business and Finance (BFP).

How is ICAEW CFAB structured?

There are six exams at ICAEW CFAB, covering core areas within accountancy, business, and finance:

  • Accounting
  • Assurance
  • Business, Technology and Finance
  • Law
  • Management Information
  • Principles of Taxation

ICAEW CFAB is examined by computer-based assessments, each taken at one of our approved test centres. This means that you can take your exams at any time of the year (subject to centre availability).

As you pass each module, ICAEW will send you a certificate of achievement. Once you have completed all six modules, you will receive your final ICAEW Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (ICAEW CFAB) qualification certificate.

Interested in further developing what you have learned?

After completing ICAEW CFAB you have a number of options available to you you. You can:

  1. finish studying at ICAEW CFAB level;
  2. complete additional requirements to secure ICAEW Business and Finance Professional (BFP) status
  3. register to study the ACA and complete the remaining nine ACA exams and additional requirements to qualify as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant

The six exam modules which form the ICAEW CFAB are also the Certificate Level exams of the ACA qualification.

After completing ICAEW CFAB you can register to study the ACA and complete the remaining nine ACA exams and additional ACA requirements to qualify as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant

Once you have ensured there is an exam centre near you, register to become an ICAEW CFAB student. You can do this online, and once registered you will receive your student login details. You will need these to book your exams and view your results, so do keep them safe.

Credit for prior learning (CPL)

If you have previously or are currently studying a relevant qualification you could be eligible for exam exemptions on for up to five of the ICAEW CFAB exams.

This means you may not have to sit all of the exams to gain the qualification.

You could be eligible for exam exemptions if you are currently studying or have obtained:

  • a university degree, which features components around business, finance, accounting or law: or
  • another accountancy qualification (eg AAT, ACCA, CIMA).
