What is a chartered accountant?
Accountants are key figures in any organisation helping to make sure businesses are in profit, but not only that, they also are influential in the key business decisions that are made in other areas, i.e. equality and diversity, technology and AI, sustainability, and the charitable direction of the organisation.
Without them, a business simply wouldn’t be able to function, so their role is a vital one. The role requires problem-solving, creativity and strong communication skills. If this sounds like something you’d like to do, then look no further than ICAEW.
What is the difference?
By law, anyone can call themselves an accountant – but not anyone can call themselves chartered. The title ‘chartered accountant’ and the letters ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant) or FCA (Fellow Chartered Accountant), let people know that the person has undertaken a minimum of three years training, passed a series of examinations, and committed to continuing professional development to keep their skills up to date. It’s an accolade to proudly show off.
