Register for BASE

BASE provides an opportunity for your students to experience the world of business and accountancy while competing with schools across the country for incredible prizes. The competition challenges students to apply the knowledge they've learnt at school to realistic business situations, helping them boost their employability skills for the next stage of their career, whether that’s university, an apprenticeship or employment.

How does BASE work?

BASE Registration

Register your school

Click on the button above to register your school. Shortly after, we will send you a registration pack in the post which includes all the information you need to take part. You can also scroll down this page to access the digital resources.

BASE students put into teams

Allocate teams

Place students into teams of no more than four. They will remain in these teams throughout the rest of the competition. Students do not need to be from the same class and there is no limit on the number of students that can enter, as long as they are aged 16-17.

BASE students take team challenge

Teams take part

Teams will need to complete an online game and video presentation. Your registration pack includes a detailed lesson plan to help you deliver the competition during class time.

BASE National Final

The National Final

The top 24 teams will be invited to the BASE National Final, where they will take part in one final challenge to decide who will be crowned BASE National Champions. The National Champions will win fantastic prizes for themselves and their school, we will also be rewarding the runners up, individuals and teams who have excelled in particular business skills.

Why take part?

  • Can be completed during lesson time, with lesson plans and resources to help with delivery.
  • BASE is completely free to enter and we’ll cover accommodation costs should you be successful in getting to the National Final.
  • All students are welcome, they do not need to be studying business related subjects.
  • Bring classroom subjects to life and give your students the chance to develop their knowledge with realistic business scenarios. 
  • Develops your students’ employability skills such as communication, resilience, organisation and commercial awareness.


  • Aligns well with curriculum requirements for Business Studies, Economics and Maths. Especially to demonstrate skills in a wider business context.
  • Helps fulfill Gatsby benchmarks, such as linking curriculum learning to careers.
  • Opportunities to network with the biggest school leaver and graduate employers and gain first-hand career advice.
  • Gives students a great addition to CV’s and university applications, including crucial feedback on their performance.
  • Learn about events that ICAEW can facilitate at your school, including commercial awareness sessions and employability workshops.

The prizes

The National Final includes a three course meal, awards ceremony and a free overnight stay at the venue. Your students will also have the opportunity to network with the biggest school leaver and graduate employers and have the chance to win some fantastic prizes.

The National Champions will win: 

  • An iPad Air each
  • A Champion's Day at Chartered Accountant’s Hall
  • The chance to interview ICAEW’s CEO, Michael Izza
  • £4,000 cash prize for the school to spend on resources and enrichment activities
  • A full day employability session for their school


The Runners-Up will win:

  • An iPad each
  • A half day employability session for their school

Every year we award students and teams performing exceptionally well in areas such as communication, critical analysis and integrity. The winners of these receive employer sponsor-related prizes including highly sought after work experience opportunities and career coaching.

We’re also offering a £100 voucher of choice to the teacher who enters the most students during the online round!
