Maxine, Trainee Business Advisor, PKF LLP

After successfully completing sixth form, achieving excellent academic qualifications, supported by being a head girl and winning a ‘Norfolk County Scholar’ award, I had the opportunity to develop my career in a number of fields.

After careful research I chose to join PKF, a successful accountancy firm as a trainee business advisor in Great Yarmouth. Joining PKF has given me the opportunity to work with an interesting range of people and see a spectrum of different businesses.

I made the difficult decision of choosing work over university, as I felt that I could achieve both academic learning whilst developing experience and professional understanding within a working environment. This gave me the confidence and people skills to apply what I was learning to my day to day tasks both within PKF and the client base.

It took a mere two years to obtain an AAT qualification, which is highly respected in industry as well as practice. I am currently studying for the even more prestigious chartered accountant qualification (ACA). My hard work and dedication was recognised when I was awarded the Carter Prize for achieving 98% in the FA top up exam. This was awarded by Harvey Nicholls CEO, Joseph Wan, during a presentation event at the impressive ICAEW headquarters, Moorgate Place.

What I enjoy most about working at PKF is that there is no such thing as a ‘typical day’. The tasks I complete vary from client to client and will include things such as preparing accounts, attending an audit, overseeing a stock take, calculating corporation tax and many others.

I feel that achieving a chartered accountant qualification will allow me to fulfil and develop a professional career at the highest level. Being such a recognised accreditation with no boundaries, if you follow the ACA path the sky is the limit!!
