Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB)

Covering the key areas of business and finance, the Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB) is a great way to build skills and understanding that can be used in any industry.

CFAB is a popular choice as it provides a straight forward, flexible way to enhance your knowledge and skills and gain a recognised certificate from ICAEW. There are no formal entry requirements and you don’t need to be working for one of our authorised training employers to start.

CFAB is also an entry route to the ACA. So if you are looking to develop your knowledge and skills and demonstrate your commitment to your future career, CFAB could be the ideal first step.

About CFAB

CFAB is made up of six modules from the ACA and provides an essential understanding of the fundamentals of finance, accounting and business.

CFAB module structure

You can study for CFAB in your own time and at your own pace and modules can be taken in any order. Study options are flexible; with classroom tuition, distance learning packages or self-study options available.

Assessment dates are also flexible, which means you can take the assessments at a time that suits you. Assessments are all computer-based and are designed to ensure you have understood the key principles of each topic area. You don’t have to wait long for your results either, they will be available within 24 hours on the ICAEW website.

As a CFAB student you will also be supported by ICAEW throughout your studies. You will have access to our online communities, e-membership to one of our faculties and a dedicated support helpline. You will also have the opportunity to register for CFAB Ambition.

This new online support scheme will give you the resources you need to prepare for an interview, make career choices, develop your professional skills and update your technical knowledge.

All of the above makes CFAB an ideal way to advance your career by combining study with your current commitments. Get a head start in the summer holidays, combine it with your degree or study for it alongside your current work commitments, the choice is yours!

What’s next?

If you want to gain ‘chartered’ status, you can count the CFAB assessments you pass towards the ACA qualification. You will need to secure a training agreement, and complete the nine remaining modules, the required work experience and professional development programmes to become an ICAEW Chartered Accountant.

If you are just looking to develop your understanding of the fundamentals of business and finance then you don’t have to progress onto the ACA. By the time you finish CFAB you will have a great understanding about business, finance and accountancy. You will have CFAB on your CV, and will have demonstrated your interest and commitment to your business career. You will have a range of transferrable skills and knowledge meaning wherever you go, you’re sure to have a competitive edge over your peers when dealing with the finance department!
