Compete in BASE

Ever thought about what you’re going to do when you leave school? BASE is your opportunity to take those crucial next steps to making yourself as employable as possible. Whether you’re going to university, considering an apprenticeship, leaping straight into employment, or you’re not quite sure what to do next, BASE prepares you by sharpening your employability skills. If this wasn’t enough, there are some once in a life time prizes up for grabs too! What are you waiting for? Speak to your teacher today to get your school registered.

Why take part?

  • Win fantastic prizes
  • Take part in a national competition against other students from different schools across the UK
  • Develop a range of business skills from problem solving and decision making to communication and team work
  • Find out about future employers and gain their first hand advice for a successful career
  • Strengthen your CV and stand out from other applicants for the university places, apprenticeships and jobs you want the most by using feedback gained from the competition tasks

How does BASE work?

Your teacher will register your school first. If they haven’t done so, you’ll need to speak with them first in order to enter.

Once your school has been registered, you’ll take on the role of an ICAEW Chartered Accountant and complete a short business related game online that lasts around 20 minutes.

Following this, you’ll be placed into teams of four to six with students from the same school as you – although they may not be in your class. Keeping your accountancy hats on, you’ll then take a team challenge that follows on from the game you completed before. Based on your combined individual and team performance, we’ll select 100 teams across all schools to go through to the next round.

The top 100 teams, supported by an ICAEW Chartered Accountant as a mentor, will then work on and deliver a short presentation via video link on their response to the challenge so far. From here, 48 successful teams will be invited to the National Final in Birmingham to take part in one final challenge to be crowned BASE 2018 National Champions. Along with this sought after title, the champions will also win fantastic prizes and the chance to interview our Chief Executive on hot topics in business and economics.

All the challenges will be business focused, requiring strong analysis, teamwork, decision making and communication skills. In return, you’ll have a great opportunity to develop, with the chance to win a wide range of great prizes throughout every stage of the competition.

The National Final

The top 48 teams from the online rounds will be invited to take part in a brand new challenge at the BASE National Final. This is a fantastic event, including an awards ceremony and a free overnight stay at the venue.

There are also awards in a range of categories and fantastic prizes for those who win them.

How to enter BASE

Your teacher will need to register your school for you. If they haven’t done this, you’ll need to have a quick chat with them in order to be able to enter. Once your school has been registered, you’re ready to take the challenge.
